5 mistakes that must avoid in doing link exchange

link exchange have been something that common done by bloggers to link building. indeed, actually link exchange is violate google webmaster policy, as stated by google below :

Your site’s ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity. However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site’s ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:
– Links intended to manipulate PageRank
– Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
– Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you.”)
– Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

But, it have been alternative way to get backlinks.however, link exchange precisely will break your SERP if you do 5 mistakes below. but, by avoid these mistakes, you will not banned by google. and, i think if you don’t do these mistakes you are not too violate google webmaster policy. The following is 5 mistakes that must you avoid when you link exchanging :

Mistake 1: Collect All Links in One Page.
Creating a special page to collect links from link exchange program is a big mistake. Search engines will easily detect the page and automatically assume that you are  Link Exchanging. Though the scheme “Link Exchange” is illegal not to do under the terms of Google. This is a dilemma, because as i said in previous post (see SMO tips & tricks), this is a way to effectiving link exchange, but at risk google banned. maybe the best way is create many page to collect links. or place links in the sidebar or footer of your blog since most links are placed in the position considered as a link partner (though, it is not effective but it can avoid google banned).

Mistake 2: Swap Links with Irrelevant Blog
As Google stated above, not only the quantity, but quality and relevance of links to key indicator in determining the pagerank of a blog. Because it, a blog with a broad and general topic will be faster to get ranked because the link exchange in this category is considered relevant.

Mistake 3: Swap Links Without Reconfirmation
This is common mistakes made beginner bloggers. He put other link first without doing check back to other blog that linked. but, probably another blog managers are forgot or even ignore that link exchange. Therefore, you should confirm and routine to check your links on other blogs.

Mistake 4 : Using Irrelevant Anchor Text
Anchor text adalah kata yang terlihat pada sebuah link.
The use of anchor text according to the blog also affect your ranking. Use anchor text that relevant with your blog. Use the main keywords in the anchor text of your blog before exchanging links.

Mistake 5: exchange links Only with Blog That Has The High Pagerank
It is true that blogs with high Pagerank could help accelerate to increase page rank of a blog. However, the parameters of the Google in giving Pagerank and ratings in the SERP as mentioned above is the quality, quantity, and relevance of a blog.
